How We Calculate

Averages are calculated by dividing totals by the number of articles: 19,543 ÷ 1,600 = 12.2 comments/article. The total reading time (7,084 min) equals approximately 118 hours or 4.9 days of continuous content.

Evolution Throughout the Year

Monthly distribution of published articles. December was the most active month, with a 47% growth compared to November.

Insight

The second half of the year concentrated 67% of articles (1,013 out of 1,600). The December peak can be attributed to year-end retrospectives and 2026 planning. April was the quietest month with only 71 articles.

Trending Tags

The 15 most used tags in articles. AI dominates with 33% presence, reflecting the artificial intelligence revolution in 2025.

Tag Analysis

The ai tag appears in 530 articles (33% of total). Adding related tags (machinelearning, llm, agents), AI content represents more than 40% of production. webdev remains strong in second place with 397 articles.

Most Active Authors

The 15 authors with most featured articles. The DEV team (jess, ben, thepracticaldev) leads with 260 combined articles - 16% of total content.

About Top Authors

The top 3 authors are DEV team members, responsible for publishing challenges, announcements, and welcome threads. Excluding the official team, nickytonline (18 articles) would be the most prolific independent author.

"Welcome Threads" dominate comments as they are community welcome posts. For technical content with most engagement, articles about TypeScript and React stand out, generating intense debates about their pros and cons.

Methodology

Transparency about how data was collected and processed.

Data Source

Data obtained through the official Forem (DEV.TO) API. Endpoint used: /api/articles with pagination of 100 articles per request.

Filters Applied

Only articles with published_at in 2025 were included. The API returns "featured" articles by default, sorted by descending popularity. Total pages processed: 20.

Calculations Performed

  • Averages: Total ÷ Number of articles
  • Percentages: (Specific value ÷ Total) × 100
  • Top Tags/Authors: Occurrence count, sorted descending
  • Monthly growth: ((Current month - Previous month) ÷ Previous month) × 100

Limitations

This infographic represents featured articles, not all content published on DEV.TO. Non-featured or unpublished articles are not included. Data collected in January 2026.
